Reflective Blog Post Week 5
Today was very overwhelming! There was a lot to get done very quickly. It started off going on at a very fast pace but then quickly died down. I found that today was a lot of waiting around once you completed everything posted. I found I had all my stuff done a lot quicker than some of the other people in the class. I learner how to insert a sound track and my voice into powtoon and then publish it onto my blog. I am becoming a lot more comfortable with the tools that we are being asked to use such as powtoon.
I need to begin working on my TED talk. I have found all the information that I am going to use on for my genius hour and organized it in a way I am going to present it so it is just a matter of actually talking through the information and making it as interesting as I can.
It was interesting getting to explore the different types of tools you can use in the classroom. Today, I explored Coggle, Storytelling with Vimeo, Photo Peach, Using Comic Strips and Exploring Word Cloud. I found it interesting all the different digital sites there are. It is amazing how many sites are out there that can be beneficial when teaching in the classroom

Reflective Blog 2
As the weeks go on I am learning a lot! There are online tools that I have never heard of before coming to class that I can now use effectively. With that being said, I am learning that these are very time consuming and they require a lot of time to complete each task. It is a lot of fun learning about each of these new things (such as powtoon). I will definitely feel comfortable using these in the classroom in the future. This class has helped a lot with the comfort of that.
I have found everything I am going to use for my genius hour presentation now it is just a matter of organizing everything so it goes together nicely! Within the next week, I am going to be finishing up my powtoon movie presentation and I will be filming and scripting my TED talk! I look forward to working through and finishing these two things!

Reflective Blog Post
I have learned a lot about my topic so far. I have collected many journal articles, looked at the difference between what academic performance is and developed a few definitions of what campus recreation is. I developed some variables such as frequency, duration, etc. as well as defined those terms.
I am starting to get used to this fast pace class and finding it easier as the weeks go on to keep up and complete the tasks within a fair amount of time, or the time we are given in class. I am finding it a lot easier to use the technology that we are using in comparison to week 1. I think knowing what to expect and how the class is going to go is very helpful when preparing for class.
I have gathered information so I will now move into looking at what is important or rather what is the most important things to look at and I will sort the information out that way. I will also be determining what is irrelevant and what will not go in the presentation we will be doing at the end of the term. I will be deciding in the next week or so how I am going to present the information I have found.

Genius Hour Blog Post #1
The Topic I will be exploring for my Genius Hour project is "exploring the relationship between campus recreation and academic performance." As an athlete, I always questioned whether or not my academic performance was going to suffer from participating in athletics.
My goal is to explore whether or not there are benefits to participating in campus recreation while in a university setting. I want to explore the benefits (if any) on academic performance from participating in campus recreation.
I found it a little bit difficult trying to come up with this topic. I think coming up the topic is one of the hardest things when beginning any project. In the weeks to come, I am going to be researching sites that are going to be useful for my project, these can include Google and the Brock website for finding academic journals. I will then begin going through the things I find and deciding whether or not they are actually going to be useful for my project. Lastly, I am going to begin putting together my project and putting it in a presentation format so I am ready to share the information I have found.

Copyright
I learned a lot about copyrights after reading the article. There was a lot of terms that I was not familiar with. For example, I didn't know the difference between fair use (US law) or fair dealing (Canadian law). Fair dealing is "use of works for purpose of private study, research, criticism, review or news reporting that is not considered to constitute infringement of copyright." Fair use is the term used in the US for "the same type of permissible use of copyrighted materials." Fair use is more flexible for educational purpose at this time. Teaching is not considered an example of fair dealing.
I think it is important to teach students how to create their own graphics. They will be able to use these skills in many other classes and learning things such as using cameras to capture images they want to use will be beneficial outside of school as well. However, I think it is still important to show students how to properly cite and use photos they find online. Citing is so important for students to learn because they use those skills all throughout their schooling.

Welcome!
I am learning pretty much everything about Genius Hour! Before class on Wednesday, I had never heard of Genius Hour. Hopefully I will continue learning new things about Genius Hour and become more comfortable using it in the weeks to come.
